Christine Michaels
Chris Michaels is the Chief Executive Officer of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the largest organization representing over 72,000 systemic family therapists worldwide.
Michaels is an accomplished senior association executive with over 35 years of extensive experience in association management for non-profit organizations. Chris proudly holds the Certified Association Executive certification from the American Society of Association Executives, which reflects her commitment to excellence and leadership in the association community.
Her entire professional career has been with AAMFT having started in 1988 when there were just 13,000 members and she has been instrumental in the growth and development of AAMFT over the years. She is committed to developing global partnerships to expand the reach of systemic therapy and strengthen the family therapy profession.
Most recently, under Chris’ leadership, AAMFT released its 2024 Systemic Ethics Textbook, a comprehensive, interactive textbook with contributions from a diverse group of distinguished professionals. The textbook offers an in-depth exploration of contemporary ethical issues facing marriage and family therapists around the globe. It comes at a critical time when the profession is navigating the complexities of telehealth, legislative updates, and the imperative for culturally competent care.
