Chef Jeffrey M., is the owner, operator, and chef at Po Boy Jim. A Washington, DC, native, Jeff was raised in Takoma Park, Maryland, where his interest in cooking began at the age of 8. His interest quickly became his passion from watching his great grandfather, a New Orleans native, and grandmother, a Guyana native, prepare family meals.
At 17, Jeff began working at his family’s Caribbean restaurant, where he received an introduction to becoming a restaurateur. After high school, he attended Prince George’s Community College, where he received his associate’s degree in Business Management. During his time at Prince George’s Community College, Jeff wrote his first business plan for a Caribbean and soul food restaurant. This business plan was submitted in a competition where he won first place and a $10,000 grant to help further his dream.
In 2012, Jeff’s dream became reality when he opened Po Boy Jim on H Street, NE. His love for po’ boy sandwiches and the limited offerings was the motivation behind this restaurant. The menu represents flavors of his ethnic background steaming from Florida, Louisiana, Guyana, and Tanzania. In 2018, to meet the growing demand of customers, Jeff opened a second location on 9th Street, NW. In 2020, Jeff plans to open a third location on 14th Street, NW. With three locations on the horizon, Po Boy Jim has quickly become a DC Staple.
When Jeff is not at Po Boy Jim, he is busy at home with his wife, Shatorya, and 4 beautiful children.
