The Atlanta Hawks have tapped into the journalism world for their latest front office hire by appointing former ESPN writer Tim Bontemps as a strategic advisor. Bontemps, who is 41 years old, joins the team to assist Onsi Saleh, the president of basketball operations.
Bontemps spent the last eight years at ESPN, where he focused on team strategy, player movement, and leaguewide trends. He also co-hosted 'The Hoop Collective' podcast. His move to the Hawks is part of a growing trend where media professionals transition to team front offices.
The Hawks have had a busy offseason, including trading for Oklahoma City Thunder guard Aaron Wiggins earlier this week. They are looking to build on last season's momentum, where they reached the playoffs and took the New York Knicks to six games.
Bontemps' role will involve basketball strategy, and he joins a list of media members who have made similar transitions. Notable examples include Kevin Pelton joining the WNBA's Connecticut Sun and Cristina Daglas moving to the Washington Wizards and Mystics.
