Doug Hill, Former Longtime WJLA Chief Meteorologist, Has Died

Former longtime WJLA Chief Meteorologist Doug Hill has died, according to a social media post by the news outlet.

Hill brought the weather to the DMV region for 33 years before retiring in 2017. He passed away surrounded by family at his home in North Carolina.

Hill grew up in Baltimore, graduated from Towson University and was once a Prince George's County police officer. Hill also served in the US Air Force before becoming a meteorologist.

Hill covered the weather for ABC 7 News at Noon, 4, 5, and 6 and is known for his calm voice that became a source of comfort for many living in the DC area over the years.

Doug was said to have lived modestly and made many generous donations to help end food insecurity.

He will be missed.
