Alligator Search Underway in St. Mary's County, According to Officials

An alligator search is underway in St. Mary's County, Maryland is underway after one was reportedly sighted in the area recently.

County officials and a wildlife expert are conducting the search after a credible piece of video showing what appears to be an alligator was brought to their attention.

It's unclear if the gator is wild and somehow made its way all the way up to Maryland, or if it's someone's pet who got loose.

The officials say an alligator sighting was reported in the area last year but was dismissed due to lack of evidence.

The parties hope to capture the reptile and relocate it to Florida.

In June, an alligator was reportedly tracked and killed in neighboring Calvert County.
