(Washington, DC) -- Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine is getting full approval from the FDA. It's the first COVID vaccine to be approved by regulators. Pfizer developed the shots in partnership with BioNTech, a German biotech company. The Acting FDA Commissioner hailed the vaccine's approval. Dr. Janet Woodcock called today's announcement a "milestone." The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been given to millions of Americans under emergency use authorization since last December. Individuals 12 and older are able to get the shots.

The FDA says the Pfizer vaccine will be marketed as Comirnaty for those who are 16 and older. The emergency use authorization for the shots still applies when it's given to kids between 12 and 15. The same goes for immunocompromised individuals who get a third dose of the vaccine.
