Montgomery County and Prince George's County in Maryland have both voted to reinstate indoor mask requirements in response to new guidelines issues by the CDC.
The Montgomery County Council unanimously voted in favor of reinstating the requirement, regardless of vaccination status.
“We are hoping that this will be a short-term measure that will help us reduce the spread of the dangerous delta variant, and we continue to urge all eligible residents who are not vaccinated to get vaccinated immediately,” Council President Tom Hucker said shortly before the vote took place on Thursday.
The rule goes into effect in Montgomery County at 12:01 am on Saturday, August 7 and apply to "indoor areas open to the public."
Similarly, Prince George's County also has chosen to reinstate the mask requirement, taking effect on Sunday, August 8 at 5:00 pm.
"After consulting with health officials who are monitoring our COVID-19 metrics daily, we have been advised that we are now at a point where we must reinstitute an indoor public mask mandate to keep Prince Georgians safe," said County Executive Angela Alsobrooks.
The two new county mandates come after Washington D.C. reinstated their indoor mask requirement last week.
