MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA - Google is introducing a "COVID layer" for its maps.
The layer will allow users to see a seven-day average for new coronavirus cases, and see what direction cases are trending in different areas.
Google says this will allow people to make "more informed decisions about where to go and what to do." The layer will also be color-coded to help users distinguish the density of cases in each location.
Google says data is collected from "multiple authoritative sources" which includes "the New York Times," Johns Hopkins and Wikipedia.
Meanwhile, hospitals nationwide are reporting American Hospital Association (AHA) warns hospitals are facing critical financial strain under the coronavirus pandemic.
