WASHINGTON, DC -- Members of Congress are examining the racial disparities exposed by the coronavirus pandemic. During a virtual House hearing, Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity co-founder and President Avik Roy says a bad economy only makes racial inequities worse.
Dr. Valerie Wilson of the Economic Policy Institute said minority workers are least likely to be able to work from home during the pandemic.
When it comes to taking action on those issues, House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott of Virginia called for all communities to be included in the economic recovery.
North Carolina Republican Virginia Foxx, the committee's ranking member, said schools and businesses reopening is key to getting back on track. President Obama's Secretary of Education John King Jr. urged Congress to take action on expanding broadband access.
