(Washington, DC) -- Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is renaming the section of 16th Street that leads to the White House "Black Lives Matter Plaza."

The words Black Lives Matter were painted in yellow on a portion of 16th Street Northwest this morning near where protesters have demonstrated.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser says she wants to call attention to making sure our nation is more fair and more just and that black lives and black humanity matter in our nation.

The Mayor also sent a letter to President Trump asking him to withdraw federal law enforcement from the city.
