WASHINGTON, DC -- DC Mayor Muriel Bowser says she will not be issuing a curfew for Thursday, as the protests have been largely peaceful.
Crowds of people continue to protest in D.C. over racial injustice. This comes after the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis last week.
Protests have turned more peaceful as the officer seen in the video with his knee on Floyd's neck had his charges elevated to second-degree murder.
Three other officers are facing charges of aiding and abetting murder. Mayor Muriel Bowser joined protesters yesterday afternoon and was cheered by the crowd.
Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham said in a press conference with Mayor Bowser this afternoon that he expects tonights demonstration to be peaceful.
With regards to the demonstration planned for Saturday, he expects it to be one of the largest the District has seen.
