VA Governor Outlines Phased Approach to Reopening the State

Breaking News

RICHMOND, VA -- Governor Northam may ease restrictions as early as next week. He outlined his 3-phased plan for re-opening the commonwealth this afternoon in press conference.

He will evaluate a transition into phase one on May 15th and will allow visiting hair salons with an appointment, churches, and gyms with social distancing precautions taken.

Phase two will further ease restrictions to no groups of 50 or more.

The Governor says he is making the determination to graduate to the next phase based on the number of newly diagnosed cases, the capacity of the hospitals, and the quantity of personal protective equipment (PPE) available for medical workers.

Northam also said he is deploying the National Guard.
