Citi and Expedia Introduce New Travel Credit Cards

SEATTLE, WA -- Expedia is cutting about 3,000 jobs, including 500 in Seattle, after a poor performance last year.

Executives called 2019 a "disappointing" year for the travel booking website and admitted that the company was "pursuing growth in an unhealthy and undisciplined way."

Apart from slashing about 12 percent of its workforce, Expedia is also halting some projects and cutting ties with contractors and vendors.

The Puget Sound area is also facing economic hardship due to the coronavirus. Seattle has had only one confirmed case of coronavirus so far, but the virus is still hurting the region's economy.

The Port of Seattle says 60 flights from mainland China to Seattle have been canceled since February 2nd.Visit Seattle tells KOMO TV the city will see a 20 percent reduction in visitors this year because of the virus, ending ten years of growth.

One tour company specializing in Chinese tours says its business is down 95 percent so far this year.
