Sony is getting in on the autonomous vehicle market. The Tokyo based company is developing light detection and ranging technology, or LIDAR, to make sure the cars are safe.Self-driving cars are already being tested in California, Texas, Washington, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
You won’t see them on the main roads just yet, though,as they are mostly restricted to specific test areas. The Sony LIDAR technology acts as the vehicles’ eye, making sure they have a 360 degree view of the road and the surroundings. The goal is to equip the cars with that technology so they can travel smoothly and safely.
