MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Based on their internet searches, more Americans would like to spend their vacations in the Maldives.
Google released its “Year in Search 2019” results which measures search spikes in everything from recipes to red carpet outfits, and travel destinations. The list shows the highest spikes in searches compared to last year, not necessarily the most popular searches.
The list revealed that Americans seem to aspire to visit the Maldives, made up of nearly 1,200 small islands across the Indian Ocean. It’s famous for its resorts that tend to inhabit islands of their own.
The resorts that trended high in searches were the newer properties like Kudadoo Maldives and Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi. One can even rent an underwater bedroom at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island for a mere $38,000 during peak season, but bargain hunters can find a rate for $10,000 in the low season.
Japan, Bora Bora, Las Vegas and Mexico round out Google's top five list of most searched vacation destinations for 2019.The second half of the list leaned toward domestic destinations like Alaska, New Orleans, California, and New York. Coming in 10th place was Costa Rica.
