CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire is getting nearly $600,000 dollars for renewable energy projects.

It will allow nine farms and businesses statewide to upgrade their energy efficiency or purchase renewable energy systems.

The funding is from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of Rural Development.

The agency named 640 awards to applicants in 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Western Pacific this year through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).

Recipients can put the funding toward energy audits and renewable energy systems like biomass, geothermal, hydropower and solar.

In 2017, the White House established the Interagency Task Force on Agriculture and Rural Prosperity to focus on rural community agriculture development.
