WASHINGTON, DC — Military officials say they're investigating after cadets attending the Army-Navy football game were seen flashing the "OK" symbol, which has been used by white supremacist groups.

During the pregame events on ESPN, students from both West Point and the Naval Academy were seen making the gesture to the camera in Philadelphia.

The symbol has long been understood to mean “everything is OK.”

“The US Military Academy is fully committed to developing leaders of character who embody the Army values,” West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Darryl Williams said in a statement.

The use of the "OK" symbol as a gesture of "white power" began as a way to troll people on social media, but it has since been co-opted by some white nationalist groups.

“I have appointed an investigating officer according to Army regulation 15-6, to conduct an administrative investigation into the facts, circumstances and intent of the cadets in question,” he said.
