WASHINGTON DC -- Defense Secretary Mark Esper says the pullback of U.S. military forces in northeastern Syria is complete.
Esper says the 600 troops posted in the rest of the country are now in a more stable posture.
Esper said last Wednesday the U.S. can move forces in and out of Syria as needed but he expected the troop level to be somewhere around 600 for the foreseeable future.
He also didn't rule out cutting troop levels further if European allies contribute forces.
This comes just a month after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer highlighted a new Defense analysis that claims ISIS is strengthened because of the U.S. pull out of Syria.
The New York Democrat said President Trump has a troubled history of being played by autocratic leaders from Turkey and Russia.
He called on the President to release his plan for Syria and the fight against ISIS.
