WASHINGTON, DC -- The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is planning to vote on slapping new sanctions on Turkey.

The bill would restrict U.S. arms sales to Turkey and sanction Turkish officials and other individuals involved in providing weapons to Turkey's military operation in Syria.Senators are still upset over Turkey's invasion of Syria and its attacks on Kurds.

Maryland Democrat Chris Van Hollen and South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham are calling on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to impose sanctions on Turkey saying"the Administration must act" after Turkey purchased a Russian missile defense system.

They sent a letter to Pompeo after reports that the country is testing out the system. The senators say it is time for Pompeo to apply the law, and not doing so sends "a terrible signal to other countries that they can flout U.S. laws without consequence."
