WASHINGTON, DC -- FBI Director Chris Wray is warning about evolving threats to the U.S. During a House hearing, Wray said terrorism "moves at the speed of social media." He noted growing concerns about domestic, homegrown terrorism that is inspired by violent extremist ideologies.
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan talked about the rise of violence that is linked to racial-and-ethnic hatred. Wray said the FBI has started seeing "racially-motivated violent extremists" in the U.S. "connecting with like-minded individuals overseas."
McAleenan also testified that global terrorist organizations continue to pose significant, persistent security threats to the U.S. Meantime, the acting director of the National Counterterrorism Center was asked if there will be a leadership void in ISIS after the death of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Russell Travers said ISIS has a "deep bench" and he doesn't think there will be a leadership void.
