Waterville Primary School Receives STEM Grant

Primary school students will be able to have more hands-on environmental education thanks to a new (STEM) grant.

America's Farmers Grow Rural Education says they have selected schools across the country to give funds to, and will donate $10,000 dollars to the Ohio district.

America's Farmers Grow Rural Education was introduced in 2011 to partner with farmers to support their local school districts. The program offers farmers the opportunity to nominate rural public school districts to compete for merit-based STEM grants of either $10,000 or $25,000.

Farmers nominate their public school district at the beginning of the year, and once nominated Bayer Fund encourages them to develop a project and submit an application for a STEM grant. Then a Farmer Advisory Council, composed of farmers from across the U.S., reviews and selects the winning grant applications from the pool of finalists.

Principal Jamie Hollinger says they'll use the money to establish an area to study and sustain the local water ecosystem.Each grade will plant their own flora in the eco system and be responsible for keeping it alive.
