WASHINGTON, DC — A new report lists the best places to retire in Florida.
The U.S. News and World report puts Ft. Myers and Sarasota, Florida in the top spots.Lancaster, PA takes number three, and Washington, DC comes in number 34.
"Deciding where to retire is an important part of your life plan," Emily Brandon, senior editor for Retirement at U.S. News said in a release. "When considering potential retirement spots, you should look for an affordable cost of living, proximity to health care services and a strong economy, especially if you plan to work part-time.”
The study determined the rankings by analyzing data about housing affordability, happiness, desirability, retiree taxes, the job market and access to quality health care. Those findings were compared to a public survey of soon-to-be retirees and those currently at retirement age to find out what was most important when considering where to retire.
This year, U.S. News expanded the scope of the study to include 125 metropolitan areas from last year’s 100 and included data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the U.S. News rankings of Best Hospitals.
U.S. News ranked these cities as the 10 best places to retire:

- Sarasota, FL
- Lancaster, PA
- Asheville, NC
- Port St. Lucie
- FL Jacksonville, FL
- Winston-Salem, NC
- Nashville, TN
- Grand Rapids, MI
- Dallas-Fort Worth, TX
