CAMP PENDLETON, CA — A Marine was killed in a vehicle accident at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, east of Sacramento.

Twenty-one-year old Private First Class Christian Bautista was serving as a turret gunner on an armored Humvee at the time of the early morning accident.

Two fellow Marines attempted life-saving measures before paramedics arrived, but the 21-year-old Illinois native was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our primary concern is for the Marine we’ve lost, his family, friends, and fellow Marines and sailors,” said Brig. Gen. Roberta Shea, commanding general of 1st Marine Logistics Group, in the press release.

Marine officials said Bautista joined the Corps in Sept. 2018 and was assigned to Camp Pendleton in May 2019. He was a motor vehicle operator assigned to the 1st Transportation Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group at Camp Pendleton.
