CAMP FOSTER, Japan -- Marines in Japan don’t have to head to San Diego for Comic Con, for the past eight years the comic book convention has been coming to them. Last week Marine Corps Community Services, Okinawa, Japan, hosted its ninth annual Comic Con at Camp Foster in Okinawa, Japan.

What started as a small event for comic book fans, artists, and video gamers, has grown into hundreds of convention-goers spread-out all over Camp Foster.

Cosplayers dressed up as their favorite animated popular culture and video game characters for special events including gaming tournaments, discussion panels, and performances from the Marine Expeditionary Forces Band.

Pfc. Anthony Collazo, a combat engineer with 9th Engineer Support Battalion said in a release, “From all branches of media, movies, games, drawing/painting, costumes, basically a safe haven for the creatives to mingle. It’s a beautiful event to experience and be a part of. It’s my very first time, but it was better than what I imagined. I can’t wait to bring my talent to Comic Con every year if possible.”

The event was part of the Marine Corps Community Services, Okinawa’s mission to “make Okinawa home" for US Marines and their families.
