The Department of Homeland Security is teaming up with Ohio’s Governor, Mike DeWine to create a new Ohio School Safety Center to help monitor among other things, cyber threats in an effort to address gun violence.
DeWine signed an executive order yesterday establishing the new resource to be staffed by the ODPS members of the Homeland Security Division and will be part of the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
According to the DHS release, “The tragic events of the February 14, 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and the May 18, 2018 shooting at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, demonstrated the ongoing need to provide leadership in preventing future school attack.”
The center will be responsible for analyzing web threats, notifying school authorities, and providing training support.DeWine says the center touches on several areas of his 17-point action plan to address gun violence.
