GAITHERSBURG, MD -- U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) is urging congress to support sustainable energy policies after touring the new solar roof at Fitzgerald Auto Mall.
The Fitzgerald Solar Roof, installed last May, is the largest solar roof atop any car dealership in the DC area. Its 2,435 panels cover just over 45,000 square feet and is expected to power 83% of the campus’ annual power, saving nearly 2 million pounds of CO2 emissions.
Following a tour of the solar roof, he hosted a town hall discussing the importance of energy sustainability, among other topics.
Cardin praised the auto mall founder Chairman Jack Fitzgerald for his business’ effort in creating sustainable energy. “We can figure out a way to meet part of the solution on climate change, reducing the amount of carbon footprint,” Cardin said.
