New Bill Sets Up Rotational Cyber Research Workforce for DHS

Lawmakers have introduced a bill that creates a rotational workforce for cybersecurity research within the Department of Homeland Security.

The Department of Homeland Security Rotational Cybersecurity Program Act is currently considered in the House Committee on Homeland Security. Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., introduced the bill, which is co-sponsored by Reps. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., Luis Correa, D-Calif., and Jim Langevin, D-R.I.

The bill directs the homeland security secretary to establish a new rotational program for U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduates and faculty focused on cybersecurity to be detailed to Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the Science and Technology Directorate. 

The overarching goal of the program is to bolster those two entities’ cybersecurity capacity building efforts and create new opportunities for academic and professional enrichment.
