A bill that creates a working group to make recommendations to Congress on how to further the expansion of internet of things technologies is a step closer to becoming reality.
On July 10, the Senate Commerce Committee cleared the so-called DIGIT Act, which was reintroduced recently by Sens. Deb Fischer, R-Neb., Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and Cory Booker, D-N.J.
In addition to assembling federal entities and experts from industry and academia, the legislation would direct the Federal Communications Commission to create a report evaluating spectrum needs required to support the internet of things.
Officially named the Developing and Growing the Internet of Things Act, the proposed legislation was firstintroduced in the Senate in January 2017.
