Just days before the planned reconstruction of Metro platforms and stations, the Office of Personnel Management is asking agency chief human capital officers to consider more workplace flexibility for employees affected by the months-long overhaul project.
In a May 21 memo to CHCOs, OPM cited telework and alternative work schedules among these more flexible arrangements.
“Agencies are being reminded of the policies and procedures on workplace flexibilities that were established during the 2016 and 2018 WMATA SafeTrack project and update them as necessary,” according to the release announcing the news.
OPM Acting Director Margaret Weichert said the agency had the best interest of the federal employees in mind and will communicate in various ways to keep them informed.
“While this project will be an inconvenience for the time being, streamlined communications between WMATA and OPM will help ensure Federal employees are able to keep up the same level of service to the American people,” she said.
The platform work begins May 25 and continues until Sept. 8.
