Marine Corps Volunteer Auxiliary to Up Cyber Readiness

The Marine Corps has announced the creation of a volunteer group intended to increase the service’s cyberspace readiness.

The Marine Corps Cyber Auxiliary is made up of cyber experts who train, educate, advise and mentor Marines to stay abreast of evolving cyber challenges. The entity was announced by Gen. Robert Neller, the commandant of the Marine Corps, last month.

Although not authorized to carry on hands-on cyber activities, the Cyber Aux helps in simulated environments and during periods of instruction, according to a May 13 release. Volunteers, who must be U.S. citizens with cyber experience, will get assessed before assigned to a unit or project.

Cyber Aux members don’t wear uniform and don’t need to adhere to the corps’ fitness or grooming standards. The group is part of the service’s sweeping efforts to position forces to conduct operations in the information environment.
