Bipartisan Legislation Aimed to Create Tech-Transfer Maturation Program

A group of lawmakers have reintroduced legislation that would authorize a program to help national laboratories work with the private sector to commercialize bleeding-edge energy technologies.

On May 2, Sens. Cory Gardner and Martin Heinrich, along with Dick Durbin, Kamala Harris and Joe Manchin, brought back a bill to authorize the program that would help commercialization of laboratory-developed energy technologies. The overall goal is to increase regional, technology-driven economic impact.

The bipartisan bill would spur job creation, grow the economy “and continue to ensure the United States remains a global leader in technological innovation,” Gardner said.

Program funding would go toward helping advance technology with the goal of attracting an industry partner that would support the technology’s next steps to commercialization.

The proposed legislation has a companion bill in the House.
