Senate OK’s Cyber Workforce Bill

The push to bolster Uncle Sam’s cybersecurity workforce has gotten an additional nudge, as the Senate on May 1 green-lighted legislation that would cultivate and retain these professionals.

Co-authored by Sens. Gary Peters, D-Mich., and John Hoeven, R-N.D., the Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act creates a rotation program for civilian cybersecurity professionals. Participants in the program would work across government to gain experience and grow their professional networks.

“As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, we face growing and evolving threats from sophisticated cyber-attacks,”Peters said in a statement.“I’m pleased the Senate passed this bipartisan bill to help the federal government recruit and retain highly skilled cybersecurity professionals, address staffing challenges in agencies across government, and strengthen our ability to combat cybersecurity threats and secure our systems.”

The bill is now headed to the House for consideration.
