A recent review of the Small Business Administration’s cloud migration found the agency needed to improve its cloud migration and various oversight controls.
SBA launched a data center consolidation initiative in fiscal year 2017, and the inspector general reviewed that effort to see if it followed federal guidance and standards.
Among the IG’s findings released April 9: SBA failed to consistently update and monitor its cloud system inventory and it needed to improve how it assesses and monitors cloud service providers. The IG also said SBA needed to adopt standards so it could better move data among cloud platforms.
During the audit, SBA worked on improving the accuracy of the system it uses to monitor its cloud system inventory. After the IG made its eight recommendations, SBA sprang into action and resolved all of the issues, according to the report.
“While we generally agree with the recommendations, several of the recommendations related to services that were in the process of being implemented, or were undergoing transition with an expected completion date by the end of this month,” SBA CIO Maria Roat said in an April 3 letter accompanying the report.
