DLA, Gallaudet Partner to Give Differently-abled Students Job Opportunities

The Defense Logistics Agency and Gallaudet University are joining forces on an initiative to give future graduates an opportunity to gain employment with the agency.

Federally chartered in 1864, Gallaudet University is home to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Currently, DLA has 118 employees who are deaf or hard of hearing --17 are Gallaudet graduates. They work in finance, contracting, procurement, inventory management and more, DLA Director Army Lt. Gen. Darrell K. Williams said at an event at the university announcing the agreement.

The new effort “will increase outreach and awareness activities to this phenomenal pipeline of talent,” he said.

Williams stressed DLA’s commitment to keeping lines of communication open and bolstering connections to Gallaudet.

“It’s important because diversity and inclusion are vital to the mission of our agency,” he said. “In a highly competitive, technological and rapidly changing world, we cannot be successful without a diverse, skilled and talented workforce.”
